Carcass: The energy of life springs forth in a full bloom

Review: In the performance 'Carcass', death is a mirror of a six stars review of life. In the audience rows I watch with a pounding heart and let myself be absorbed by a different and brave dance drama from Himherandit Production. A large angled ceiling mirror draws my attention as the mirror hangs over one side of the stage. It is like a sail of a ship where the performers can reflect and view themselves from a different perspective. - Like looking into the secrets behind the blind spot. Death that looks at life and life that looks at itself with the eyes of death.

The show 'Carcass' tackles the theme of death with both humor and love for all the moments where life matters. The performance has its nerve in the practical experience of death and at the same time it relates poetically to all the behaviors that arise in this landscape.

They dance with the energy of life in the clothes of death

6 strong and experienced performers, - lively and expressive, - give both edge and care to death. They grapple with all the shadows that live in its murky waters. I like the practical relationship the show 'Carcass' has with death. The 6 dancers express nakedly and honestly the feelings that arise here. I like the energy. I like the representation the work has of the needs that arise concretely at the moment of death. To wash the dead and put on shrouds. I love the depiction of the life-saving measures that need to be taken when the living have to stay alive and at the same time knowing, that one day they must also die.

The drama has a strong sence of duality

The performance 'Carcass' is a poetic gem of small subtle moments that are connected to the last breath. From the breath that man has in his chest when we think of death and to the breath that escapes when death occurs. The sound of a heartbeat and the absence when the sound stops. Life and emptiness as a duality. The throbbing rhythm as a sound backdrop, and later terrifying electronic scratches that cut to the bone. The classic opera sound that lifts the mood in the room to a divine and reverent moment. The sound stage is the basis of the scene. On top of this is an important, wonderful and very life-affirming choreographic work about death, and about the human condition of living with death.
