In the middle of life, many married couples are hit by the question: "How are we living! Is it good enough!"
David Eldridge has written such a story. It is performed at Teatret Svalegangen with Per Smedegaard as director. Maja Juhlin and Caspar Juel Berg are on stage as a married couple struggling to rediscover love and eroticism.

Is there a difference in how the two characters deal with life?
- Yes, Charlotte, my character, is probably more aware about her broken dreams. In other words, everything that didn't turn out the way she wanted, says Maja Juhlin. - Where as Anders, he might surf a little more on the surface. And having fun, - and it probably all works out. Until - perhaps - during the performance he cracks open.

- She tries to wake him up, somehow. Because she is well aware that they are not where they want to be. And should you just keep doing it? Should they be unhappy forever, or should they do something about it?

I don't want sex with you anymore

In one of the scenes, the married couple argue about sex. They have just been on an inn holiday, and Anders is proud. "We had sex twice!". But it turns out, it was compulsory sex. In fact, Charlotte no longer wants sex with Anders. They have lost contact with each other, partly because Anders commutes between Aarhus and Copenhagen. They are not good at talking together about the problems, but they try.

There is a lot of drama in theatre, but sometimes there is just as much drama - or more - in one's own life. Is it a play about the lives of ordinary people?
- Yes, and I think there is an honesty, and there is a nakedness that makes us see these people in the same way as we see ourselves, says Per Smedegaard.
- The emotions the characters experience, the pain - but also the love they experience - it is very 1-1 with what you experience in reality.

The man in the play does not want to talk about the problems. What's the matter with you, Caspar?
- What's wrong with him? Good question, says Caspar Juel Berg. - So... I hardly know that, but yeah. This character, written by David Eldridge, has a humor strategy that solves everything - he thinks himself - a long way down the road.
- He has convinced himself that happiness in life is the little things. It is cooking. It's drinking beer. And I agree with him on that, a long way. But he has also come to believe that not wanting anything is a sign of contentment.
- But maybe it is not!

Maybe open up more conversations after you've seen the play?

Silence creates rust in a relationship. It's good to talk together.

Where do you want to lead the audience?
- I hope that the audience will be involved - that they will suffer with and feel for Anders and Charlotte on stage, says Per Smedegaard.
- And then I hope that you leave the theater with a reflection. With a new look at oneself, with an opportunity to think of oneself in a different way.
- And hopefully a conversation will start. It could be great if we created some conversations.
